Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey Tea
I'm feeling rotten. I rarely take sick days, but this afternoon my head was swimming something chronic. I left work in a taxi at around 4pm. The thought of using public transport to get home in the rain was too much for me to handle.
The only thing I'm craving right now is clear fluids. My Auntie A swears by a mix of apple cider vinegar and honey. I've added raw ginger and some lemon juice to my teapot for good luck, but the basic mix is the vinegar and the honey. My aunt drinks a mug every morning - she reckons it's better than drinking tea or water first thing. It would certainly wake you up, and it just FEELS healthy.
Ingredients
1 T apple cider vinegar
1 T runny honey
1 cup (250mL) of boiling water
1 thumb-sized piece of ginger (optional)
Juice from 1/4 lemon (optional)
(The title of the post is a bit misleading. There is actually no tea involved. It's just how my family refer to it.)
Method
Pour the honey and vinegar into the bottom of your favourite mug.
Pour the hot water over the top.
Mix it up, then drink slowly, enjoying the soothing honey and the cleansing vinegar.
(For some reason, the order is important. It tastes different the other way around.)

I tried the honey/cider vinegar for a while, it's supposed to make you lose weight. Might go back to it. Hope you feel better!
ReplyDeleteHow are you getting on in your new living circumstances? I often reflect upon how utterly bonkers it was that we were both going through the exact same thing at the same time, just at opposite ends of the planet. Let me know how things are going if you get a chance.

@Caroline, No - Really? I didn't know about the weight-loss thing. I guess it makes sense - it's really cleansing and yummy.
ReplyDeleteI'm going well - the new house is fab, and I'm all settled into the rhythm of my new life. It was very strange how that happened to both of us at the same time, and how I suspected you weren't posting for the same reason. I'll drop you a separate comment on your blog with more deets tomorrow.
I've never tried this combo before but I'm always after tummy things..... especially new things I can recommend to my patients.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about clear fluids, I put myself on clear fluid fasts when my tummy is messing with me.
Hope you're feeling better.
Now following your gorgeous blog!

Oh, I know this! My Grandma was diagnosed with arthritis around 25 years ago and has drunk this every morning since. She's now 86 and swears by it.
ReplyDeleteApple cider is excellent for a lot of things, I had a bought of heartburn one night and googled home remedies. 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar worked wonders. It almost made me vomit but it did work!
Liquids my girl, you keep it up.
ReplyDeleteGood job on the taxi, best to resort to the next level of transport when sickness strikes.
That or sweet talk your coworkers into a door-to-door service.
Hope you feel better! xxx
I've just starting taking apple cider vinegar too - i've been having it with cranberry or grape juice - and it needs to be super diluted or I just struggle with the vinegar tang. I'll try your recipe next time - the honey just might do the trick!!

@Blithely Unaware Thanks so much darl, your blog is delightful also! Tummy bugs suck :-(
ReplyDelete@LaLa Wow! That's a great testimony to the power of simple remedies! Arthritis can be such a b*tch. My mother's dear friend suffers from it, so perhaps I should suggest it to her also.
@Soph-e Thanks. I think I've had over 10 pots of tea today, and the same goes for yesterday! Feeling very sad to be locked away inside on this delightful day.
@Alecia How great! I'll have to try it with the cranberry juice. That sounds like a neat combination!
Apple cider vinegar is an excellent drink that treats illnesses. It's good to know that you added some ginger and honey to make the taste even better. Those ingredients are also good in relieving sore throat. I actually consider ginger and honey tea as excellent sore throat home remedies.
ReplyDelete!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just came across this blog by searching apple cider vinegar remedies for sore throats. I did the recipe above except I switched out ginger for a pinch of cayenne pepper, and it's working wonders for my throat. I'm not even done with my first cup yet! I will be trying your recipe with the ginger next! Yum! You're also right about it FEELING healthy. :)
I'm also "addicted" to apple cider vinegar :) I love to drink a cup of apple cider vinegar and honey every night. It has lots of health benefits such as regulating blood pressure and helps digestion.
