The story of the unbranded pants

Woah! Pants that are actually the right length! And check out their detailed pattern... Mesmerising.

Hey, look, I've added a belt. And what fun these pockets are.

Hmm... This jacket creates a nice little ensemble. And look, the soles of these new heels are gold!

Alexander McQueen frames? Don't mind if I do.

A long awaited holiday...

By the time you read this, I'll be on a beach in Malaysia.

It's been a hectic few months, with my not-so-new job taking up much more time than I'd ever anticipated when I left management consulting looking for a change of pace. But the project I've been working on has been immensely rewarding, so I'm not complaining.

I'll be back soon, with my batteries recharged, and some exciting plans for the next few months.

Cocktails, anyone?

Photo booth fun

As part of my somewhat varied role at work, I recently spent some time researching different concepts to be included as part of a launch campaign.

One idea that we played around with was installing a photo booth at an event. Given I'm working in the cosmetics industry, helping people to look their best and then capturing the end results on camera is a no-brainer idea, particularly if the photos are digital and can find their way onto Twitter and Facebook.

So I was excited to see a photo booth from the Australian Photo Booth Company installed at the Up and Comers Fashion Show the other week. Cheryl from Business Chic and Steffi, my plus one for the evening, all crammed into the tidy space with our selected props. The results speak for themselves: having a photo booth at an event is a surefire way to keep people talking about the event after it has finished.

Plus, it was loads of fun, and the money went to the Ardoch Youth Foundation.

Up and Comers Fashion Show (Part II)

Last Wednesday I attended the Up and Comers Fashion Show, which supports young independent designers.

I promised to include a few snaps of the designs. Although I stood out like a sore thumb with my little point-and-shoot alongside the professional-looking SLR cameras in the media riser, hopefully the photos do the trick for your viewing pleasure!

Melia By Night.

Borsha

Modernist

Harvest Powell

My Sister Pat

I Heard They Eat Cigarettes

Future Romance

Lilyhart

My favourite collection as a whole was Future Romance. The detailed back panelling and demure necklines connected the designs, which featured high-waisted shorts and denim jeans as a common base. The fabrics were varied: leather, silk, denim, a knit midriff cardigan, and linen. A genuinely wearable, interesting collection.

My favourite individual design was the burnt orange dress by Borsha. How cute is it?! I could totally wear that to work, play or in between. The work outfit might be more of an ensemble with black leggings and clogs as a base, but the dress alone would be perfect for a summer night.

To support the designers above, head over to the next Up and Comers Market on Saturday the 13th November, from 11am - 5pm. The market is held at Ormond Hall (next to the Belgian Beer Café), at 557 St Kilda Rd. Enter via Moubray St.

Up and Comers Fashion Show

The Up and Comers network supports independent Australian designers trying to break into the local fashion industry.

Originally conceived as a monthly market, last Wednesday night marked the first formal fashion show for the group.

Sportsgirl gift bags lined up prior to the show

The night was organised as a charity event, with all proceeds going to the Ardoch Youth Foundation.  The Ardoch Youth Foundation works to support children and young people so that they can receive an education - something that many of us take for granted. You can apply as a volunteer here.

The designers who showed their collections are already starting to turn heads in the local fashion scene. The lineup consisted of Lilyhart, Melia by Night, Tobey, Borsha, Modernist, Harvest Powell, My Sister Pat, I Heard They Eat Cigarettes, and Future Romance.

The evening was great fun, despite the appalling weather (the heavy rain caused the roof in the ladies' bathroom to virtually collapse!) We bumped into Cheryl from Business Chic before the show started, and she sat down and made us one of her handcrafted business cards on the spot. Such dedication!

With my official media pass I was able to get some good snaps of each collection, which I'll post separately.
